Unlike traditional epoxy products, DIY Epoxy Australia's coatings suit both internal and external use. Common applications include garages, sheds, workshops, patios, driveways, outdoor entertaining areas and internal living areas. The system works on bare concrete and most masonry surfaces. For areas that get wet, add our non-slip additive to the clear coat for extra grip.

About 10 hours of work in total, spread over 3-4 days. Day 1: etch & clean the slab and patch any cracks (allow up to 48 hours for the etched slab to dry - in warm weather it can be ready the next day). Day 2: apply the epoxy primer, then the coloured base coat (broadcasting flakes if you chose the flake kit). Day 3: apply the clear top coat. The hands-on time is modest - it is the drying between coats that sets the pace. Most people plan it around a long weekend.

A typical single garage is 18-21m², which the 0-20m² kit covers. A double garage is usually 36-40m², which needs the 20-40m² kit. Light foot traffic is fine after about 2 days. Give the coating up to a week before parking the car so it reaches full hardness - exact timing depends on temperature. Parking too early is the most common way to damage a fresh epoxy floor, so if in doubt, give it another day.

As with any sealed surface, the finished product can be slippery when wet. The flake finish adds some natural texture for grip. For external areas, or anywhere you expect water - around a car-wash bay, laundry or alfresco area - we recommend adding our non-slip additive to the clear coat for added slip resistance.

The cured system resists hot tyre pick-up, oil, fuel, chemicals and abrasion - the things that destroy ordinary paving paint. It is built for daily-driver garages, workshops and sheds. The clear top coat adds the final layer of durability and gloss, and a flake floor also hides everyday dirt and tyre marks between cleans.

Unlike most epoxy products, ours are developed as low-VOC and non-flammable. There is very little smell beyond a house-paint type odour, so coating an attached garage will not drive you out of the house.

Our products perform best on bare concrete. A previously painted surface can be sanded and coated over, but we cannot guarantee adhesion to someone else's coating. The reliable approach is to hire a floor grinder and completely remove old coatings, glues or sealants before you start.

Oil contamination causes blotchy areas or fish-eyeing in the finish. Thoroughly degrease any affected areas with our concrete degreaser - especially under where the car sits - then confirm the area is clean with the water droplet test described in our installation guide. Water should soak in rather than bead on the surface.

No special trade gear. You will need a stiff broom, scrubbing brush, rollers with an extension pole, a cutting-in brush, a mixing paddle and gloves. Choose flake if you want a decorative finish that hides slab imperfections, disguises dirt and tyre marks, and adds natural grip underfoot. Choose plain colour for the smoothest, most modern, easiest-to-mop finish - best on tidy slabs. Both use the same proven 3-step system, roll on over a weekend, and cost within about $30 of each other.

Shipping is free Australia-wide on orders of $299 or more, which covers every floor kit. Smaller orders ship from $19 (QLD), $24 (NSW/ACT/VIC/SA) or $32 (WA/NT/TAS). Most orders arrive within 2-8 business days depending on your location, and you will get a tracking number on dispatch. We ship within Australia only.

Our complete kits run from $367 (plain colour, single garage) to $636 (flake, double garage), including surface prep, primer, colour coat and clear coat. A professionally installed floor of the same type typically costs thousands more once labour is included. The trade-off is one weekend of your own time.
